Library Lions 2009

Well, if this video doesn’t get you jazzed about being a writer, then nothing will….

The New York Public library is a treasure without parallel, and it is getting ready to expand in unprecedented ways.

Over the next five years it will open five new hub libraries, patterned on the great Bronx Library Center. It will extensively digitize its collections, and will transform the Fifth Avenue building, increasing the public space accessible there by three times the current space. That and a whole host of other capital projects in the research and branch system will make the world’s best research and learning institution even better.

All this for just under $1 billion. Private funds will pay for more than half, (Steven Schwarzman from the Blackstone Group already has already given $250 million) land sales will fund most of the rest, grants from the government will pick up the remainder.

Douglas Barone

A postmodern Existentialist with Objectivist leanings, fighting to catch up with his art, after serving time as a capitalist oppressor of the people.

Doug Barone retired from corporate life after 20 years in the finance industry and is fooling everyone into thinking he is a writer. Having been a Corporate Strategist, Finance Executive, and IT Executive he has found almost nothing of use to him from those years except the zany people and crazy stories that no one in their right mind could ever dream up. He uses these real life experiences in his work and this separates him from other writers who never really worked a day in their lives either. He writes about the primacy of the individual, the oppression of institutions, and the ability of real heroes to exist. As such he fully expects to be pilloried by the academic left and the religious right, and looks forward to every lashing.
